Cann River Overnighter

Sometimes it's great just to decide to go for a ride and go. This trip was just that. We realised there wasn't much happening and decided to jump on the bike and take off for a couple of days and what a great decision it was.

Day 1: Map (392 km travelled)

Living on the south coast has opened up a new world to us, with a whole set of different roads to explore. This trip takes us across the Victorian border to Cann River. Our first break in Moruya on the Eurobodalla Coast.

All along the South Coast of NSW, there's lots of photo opportunities. This is the Moruya Bridge over the Moruya River.

A couple enjoy the morning fishing from their canoe.

This old boat shed has the best views over the river.

After our  rest in Moruya, we ride on along the Princes Highway to lovely Narooma with it's incredible turquoise waters.

The Narooma Bridge. Check out that water!

Cathy enjoying the view over the inlet.

The water is so clean and clear.

The walk way continues on under the bridge.

Just to the side is this oyster shed where you can buy farm fresh oysters.

The boat used to harvest the oysters moored alongside the shed.

And a view further up the inlet.

We cross the bridge to check out the boat ramp.

We find some people had just returned from a morning on the water.

They're cleaning their catch and the local pelicans wait for the leftovers.

Looks like they did well and this wasn't all of it.

Leaving Narooma, we peel off the Princes Highway to take the old road through Tilba . What an incredibly beautiful part of the world it is.

Unusually coloured cattle I thought.

The quiet road through the area.

Eventually we get to the Snowy Mountains Highway turn off, to head west, away from the coast.

It was so good to see the paddocks so green again after the lack of rain.

This road is another motorcyclists dream.

Here, we take a break at the little Bemboka Hotel, where we had great chat with the publican's wife. They also enjoyed motorcycling together.

This is the view over the valley from the beer garden. So peaceful.

Leaving Bemboka, we head up Brown's Mountain. Another great section of road.

Here, we turn off on to the Monaro Highway and head South once again. Only 130km to go to Cann River.

Crossing the border in to Victoria.

Only 44km left!

We finally ride in to Cann River. This time we stayed in a Motel, as the pub didn't offer accommodation.

And the bike had her own park spot. Actually, their were four other riders staying that night.

We changed out of our gear and set off for a short walk around town. I love these old churches.

Here's the pub. I have no idea why they didn't offer accommodation.

We crossed the bridge to check out the river.

More tranquillity.

A young family enjoys the water in the distance. It was quite hot in the afternoon and the ciccatas were deafening.

Although the river was low, it still looked inviting.

Walking back in to town, the sign shows our direction of travel for the next morning, through to Eden.

Day 2: Map (378 km travelled)

This morning we left Cann River toward Eden, where we would have breakfast.

It wasn't long before we crossed back in to NSW.

This small monument sits at the border.

We just love riding these country roads in the morning, when no one's around.

We roll in to Eden to enjoy breakfast at this bakery.

After breakfast, we head up to the Eden lookout.

This area is popular for whale watching and was once a whaling town.

Unfortunately, no whales today.

Just down from the lookout, is the boat harbour.

Fishing must be ok here, as they have a substantial fleet.

Leaving Eden, we stay off the highway and take the tourist drive along the Saphire Coast.

Here we take an opportunity for a break and a few pics in lovely Merimbula.

Yet another gem of the NSW South Coast.

These statues of pelicans, dotted the shoreline on the southern side of the bridge.

Our next visit, is the seaside town of Tathra.

The Tathra wharf in the distance, we have visited a few times.

Leaving Tathra, we head north to Bermagui.

So we roll in to Bermagui and head for the harbour and boat ramp.

The Shags look like they've been fishing and now drying in the sunshine.

The pelicans don't look underfed either.

The man made harbour, also makes for a great place to swim.

Eventually we arrive back in to Narooma, where we take one last break before heading home. The Narooma Inlet as seen from the local pub.

Another great ride, although, not so great for these bugs caught up in the bike's grill. We also had a great collection of them on our helmets.
