Boorowa Overnighter March 20

2020 got off to a bad start in NSW, with severe bush fires ravaging the area for weeks, then followed by heavy rain and flooding. Even now the world is facing the threat from the Corona Virus Pandemic, so it was good to finally get on our bike and just take off and clear the cob webs. We hadn't seen our friend Mike and his crew in Boorowa for quite a long time, so we chose the Boorowa Hotel as our destination for a long overdue visit.

Day 1: Map (291 km travelled)

It wasn't long before the smiles were back on our faces, riding our bike up the King's Hwy, through to Braidwood and on to Bungendore for our first break.

Just a small town outside Canberra and on the way to Goulburn.

We'd been riding for 2 hours from home, so it was good to get off and have a hot chocolate and a coffee.

Leaving Bungendore, we make our way through to Yass. The Central West of NSW was looking so green after much needed rain.

The horses and cattle had a bit to eat.

The road out this way was great and a pleasure to ride with the lack of traffic.

Riding in to Yass for lunch.

We noticed alot of new housing development in Yass. Parts of it are becoming suburban, unlike the original town, built on the back of the wool industry.

After a leisurely ride through some great countryside, we roll into beautiful Boorowa and park the bike in front of the friendliest pubs you'll ever visit. The Boorowa Hotel.

After unloading the bike, we change and go for a walk about town.

The war memorial stands proudly at the top end of town.

This walkway along the river, is a favourite of ours.

Such tranquillity on a perfect autumn afternoon.

One of the town's original general stores, stands silently in one of the side streets.

We had the place to ourselves.

Across the river, sheep lay in the shade by the water.

Until they spotted us.

This poor old wind mill, stood creaking and groaning in the breeze.

This horse looks well fed and cared for.

Day 2: Map (309 km travelled)

The next morning, we woke to a perfect cool crisp day and headed off at 8:30am.

Perfect riding weather, watching the various animals go about their business.

This area has alot of granite outcrops popping out of the ground.

So unexpected, but here they are.

The roads out here are perfect and so quiet.

And go on and on.

Riding through Goulburn, we turn off to ride through Windellama and on to Nerriga. These roads are mainly new to us and they were a pleasure.

Here, we ride in to Nerriga for our last break, to enjoy a drink and a quick bite to eat.

This "monument" across the road.

Cathy waiting for our bowl of hot chips.

Riding away from Nerriga, we are reminded of the vast damage to our bushland due to the fires.

But the Australian bush works it's magic with some rainfall.

Ending our ride, it's always great to come home to Mollymook.

This beautiful sight, we never get tired of and we owe it all to our bike rides. Without, getting out and travelling all over NSW, we would never have discovered this stunning area and made it our home.
